I have been in a car accident - what now?

Being in a car accident is a traumatic experience. Unfortunately a car accident creates secondary issues, which if not properly addressed can add insult to injury.

Here are some suggestions on what you can do to prevent unnecessary grief after an accident:

1.Report the accident to your insurance company and ask them to send you the appropriate application forms for any insurance benefits you may need.

2.If you have been injured, consult a lawyer to discuss your rights. We will give you a free consultation for this purpose, irrespective of whether you were at fault in the accident or not.

3.Follow your health care professional's advice with respect to treatment.

4.Keep track of all your expenses, appointments with doctors etc.

5.If the insurance company for any other vehicles involved in the accident contacts you, be aware that you have no legal obligation to give them a statement or for that matter, to speak to them at all.

6.If your vehicle has been damaged and needs to be repaired, ensure that the repairs have been effected properly before signing any release for property damage.
